Rep. Melissa Shusterman June 2, 2025 | 3:10 PM
HARRISBURG, June 2 – State Rep. Melissa Shusterman, D-Chester, is excited to announce that her legislation, House Bill 1058, passed the state House of Representatives today.
House Bill 1058 would remove the state lottery’s profit margin requirement for proceeds to fund the Property Tax Rent Rebate Program and free or reduced transit for seniors. Current law states that no less than 20% of the total revenues accruing from the sale of lottery tickets or shares shall be dedicated to these two programs.
“This change will allow the Pennsylvania Lottery to more effectively compete with other forms of entertainment and put the lottery on better financial footing,” Shusterman said. “Removing the profit margin ensures the continued health of the lottery, helping our aging population maintain their independence and quality of life.”
The bill now moves to the state Senate for consideration.
