Pashinski announces “It’s On Us” grant award for Wilkes University to combat campus sexual violence

PLAINS TWP., March 20 – State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski today announced that Wilkes University has been awarded a $21,795 grant through the Commonwealth’s “It’s On Us PA” initiative, a statewide effort aimed at preventing sexual violence and supporting survivors on college campuses.

The funding is part of a broader $1.7 million investment by Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration to 43 colleges and universities across Pennsylvania. The It’s On Us PA program focuses on fostering safer campus environments through education, prevention strategies, and enhanced support services for students.

“This funding is an important step in ensuring students at Wilkes University have access to the resources, education, and support they need to feel safe on campus,” said Pashinski. “No student should have to worry about their safety while pursuing their education, and initiatives like It’s On Us help create a culture of accountability, awareness, and prevention.”

The grant will support efforts at Wilkes University to raise awareness about sexual violence, promote healthy relationships, and expand access to resources for survivors. Programs funded through It’s On Us PA often include campuswide education campaigns, bystander intervention training, and strengthened support systems for those impacted by sexual assault.

The It’s On Us campaign, originally launched as a national initiative, encourages students, educators, and community members to take an active role in preventing sexual violence and supporting survivors. In Pennsylvania, the program brings together campus leaders and communities to ensure students have the tools and knowledge to stay safe.

Pashinski emphasized the importance of continued investment in programs that protect students and strengthen campus communities.

“By investing in prevention and support, we are sending a clear message that sexual violence has no place in our schools or communities,” Pashinski said. “I’m proud to see Wilkes University leading the way in creating a safer environment for its students.

“I would also like to thank Governor Shapiro and his administration for saying ‘It’s on us’ to combat campus sexual violence,” Pashinski continued. “If you see something, say something!”

Supported by state funding through the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the state budget, the grant reflects the commonwealth’s commitment to preventing sexual violence and supporting survivors on college campuses.
