Pashinski announces $1.1 million grant for domestic violence shelter expansion

HARRISBURG, April 22 – State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski, D-Luzerne, announced today the approval of a Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant totaling $1.1 million to Domestic Violence Service Center Inc. to expand their existing Wilkes-Barre facility.

“The safety of ALL in our community remains a top priority for me and this funding will help protect more victims of domestic violence in our area,” Pashinski said. “This expansion will help protect some of the most vulnerable among us – including children, women and seniors facing domestic violence. Many thanks to Governor Wolf for approving this grant and congratulations to everyone working to protect victims of domestic violence across Luzerne County.”

The funding will help to add an expansion to the existing DVSC facility. Work associated with the expansion will include the addition of six client bedrooms, as well as men's and women's toilet and bathing facilities, expanding the existing kitchen area, and installing a HVAC, alarm and security systems.

The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.
