Young announces over $2.9M in state funding for local infrastructure projects

HARRISBURG, Jan. 21 – State Rep. Regina Young, D-Phila./Delaware, announced that $2.9 million has been awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority to local transportation and sewer projects to improve public safety and quality of life in the 185th Legislative District.

Three projects were awarded funding through the state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund to support local transportation projects that encourage economic development and safe transit:

  • $1.3 million to Philadelphia Authority for Industrial Development for roadway realignment and improvements to pedestrian and bicyclist safety along South Broad Street at the Navy Yard.
  • $750,000 to the City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation to replace signage at the Philadelphia International Airport.
  • $433,000 to Schuylkill River Development Corporation for pedestrian and bicyclist safety improvements at the intersection of Passyunk Avenue and 61st Street.

One project was awarded funding from the state’s Small Water and Sewer Program, which provides grants to communities for water, sewer, storm water, and flood control projects:

  • $425,000 to Colwyn Borough for Pine Street sanitary sewer improvements.

“These investments will go a long way to improving the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers in our communities, as well as protecting public health with sewer improvements in Colwyn,” said Young. “I’m thankful for the continued importance the Shapiro administration places on improving the everyday lives of people in South and Southwest Philadelphia and Delaware County.”

Funding for both programs is administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency established in 2004 to manage Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus initiatives.

The 185th Legislative District is comprised of areas in South and Southwest Philadelphia, along with Tinicum Township and Colwyn Borough in Delaware County.
