Young announces major grant funding for area projects

PHILADELPHIA, July 16 – State Rep. Regina Young, D-Phila./Delaware, announced today that six projects in her legislative district have been awarded grants totaling $10.2 million from Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.

The projects are all located in the South and Southwest Philadelphia sections of the 185th Legislative District:

  • $500,000 to Bartram Village for site preparation for affordable housing.
  • $1 million to Bartram's Garden Campus for construction of the Ecosystems Education Center at Bartram's Garden, reconfiguring the main driveway and restoring a pedestrian bridge.
  • $350,000 to FloatLab IX and Philadelphia Mural Arts for the final phase of construction for FloatLab at Bartram’s Garden.
  • $350,000 to GPHA Medical and Behavioral Health Campus for development of a comprehensive medical campus.
  • $4 million to the Philadelphia Eagles Training Facility to expand, develop and construct several integral parts of the facility.
  • $4 million to Rhoads Industries Building to construct a new waterfront building.

“These projects mean so much to our community, so I’m proud to be able to support these investments in our cultural well-being, health and safety, plus job creation and innovation,” Young said. “This is one of the most important parts of my job in state government and delivering for Philadelphia and Delaware counties.”

Young also pointed to a major grant awarded to Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media, Delaware County, that will help it update its emergency room facilities and infrastructure and ensure it remains part of the health care options for area residents.

“In Delaware County, we need to support all the health care resources we still have, as we’ve seen so many hospital and health facility closures in recent years,” Young said. “This impressive investment in Riddle Hospital should help ensure that their emergency facilities contain state-of-the-art equipment and the necessary infrastructure to remain a vital part of health care solutions for our communities without having to travel great distances to Philadelphia or beyond.”
