Philadelphia lawmakers tout funding for ACCT Philly

HARRISBURG, Jan. 15 – State Reps. Joe Hohenstein, Jordan Harris, Morgan Cephas, and Jose Giral, all D-Phila., announced today that $200,000 in funding has been awarded to ACCT Philly to support its operations.

ACCT Philly is Philadelphia’s largest animal care and control service provider, assisting nearly 18,000 animals and residents in need each year. Its mission is to provide shelter, care, and lifesaving services for homeless, abandoned, and abused animals, while also protecting the health, safety, and welfare of Philadelphia’s residents -- benefiting all city residents regardless of race or economic status.

Giral, who represents the legislative district in which ACCT Philly is located, applauded the funding.

“ACCT plays a vital role in providing compassionate animal care and rescue services across the Philadelphia region, and I am proud to see this funding support their critical mission,” he said. “The North Philadelphia animal shelter serves nearly 18,000 animals each year who have been homeless, abandoned, or abused, with a steadfast commitment to humane care and finding loving, permanent homes. Protecting and caring for these animals strengthens not only their wellbeing, but also the wellbeing of our communities.”

Hohenstein, a member of ACCT’s board, also expressed his appreciation for the funding.

“I am happy to be part of the team that secured operational support funding for ACCT,” Hohenstein said. “As a board member of ACCT, and as the proud owner of six cats and three dogs, I know firsthand that ACCT does a phenomenal job providing humane animal care through fostering, rescue, and adoption. The staff at ACCT understand that our pets are family. I thank my colleagues for helping secure these necessary funds so ACCT can continue its lifesaving work.”

Harris, majority chair of the PA House Appropriations Committee, highlighted the importance of the funding to ACCT’s continued success.

“ACCT Philly plays a critical role in protecting the health, safety, and well-being of animals across Philadelphia, and this funding ensures they can continue that lifesaving work,” Harris said. “As we make budget decisions, it is important to invest in organizations that deliver real results for our communities. This operational support will help ACCT Philly sustain its services, support its dedicated staff, and continue saving thousands of animals each year.”

Cephas, chair of the Philadelphia House Delegation, said she was proud to help secure the funding.

“ACCT Philly serves our city with compassion and dedication, and I’m proud to support funding that advances their mission as Philadelphia’s largest animal shelter,” she said. “This investment helps protect the family pets we hold dear and ensures the health, safety, and welfare of the nearly 18,000 animals ACCT saves and helps place in loving homes each year.”
