George’s Hill Pump Station project receives state financing

HARRISBURG, Oct. 15 – State Reps. Roni Green and Morgan Cephas, both D-Phila., today announced that the new George’s Hill Pump Station project in West Philadelphia is receiving $47.65 million in financing from the state.

According to Green, the low-interest loan from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority will finance the pump station construction project that will serve the neighborhoods of Wynnefield Heights, Overbrook Farms, Overbrook Park and Carroll Park.

“This state funding is welcome news for our city, which has struggled with aging infrastructure for far too long,” Green said. “This state support will allow the water department to move forward in the most economically efficient way on this badly needed station that will lead to more reliable service with fewer service interruptions, adequate flow to hydrants and a more effective system for our neighborhoods.

“I am delighted to see the state partner with our city to ensure clean and safe water for local residents.”

Cephas serves on the Pennvest board of directors and welcomes this investment in this vital public utility.

“Reliable water service is an essential public resource,” Cephas said.

“This funding is crucial to upgrade our existing but aging infrastructure to improve the water pressure and dependability of service in the Belmont High Service Pressure District. I appreciate the vision of my colleagues on Pennvest board for this investment in our West Philadelphia neighborhoods.”

Currently in its design phase, the pump station project is part of the Philadelphia Water Department’s 25-year Water Revitalization Plan. Construction is expected to begin in 2026 and be completed by 2030.
