Are you a SNAP recipient? Make sure to check your mail!

Are you still eligible for SNAP? Recipients will be receiving this letter from the Department of Human Services regarding the federal government’s rules on work requirements and how long certain people can receive SNAP benefits.

Certain SNAP recipients will be subject to SNAP work requirements and time limits because of the federal budget bill passed by Congressional Republicans and signed by President Trump.

Under these new rules, to keep or become eligible for SNAP some people will have to work, volunteer, or participate in an education or training program for at least 20 hours a week (or 80 hours each month) AND report that they are meeting these work requirements. People who cannot prove they are working 20 hours a week, can only get SNAP for 3 months every 3 years. However, these work rules do not apply to people who qualify for an exemption.

People with questions about how to report work, education, training, or volunteering activities can contact their caseworker at DHS’ County Assistance Office or call the Customer Service Center at 877-395-8930. In Philadelphia the number is 215-560-7226.

If you live in Southwest Philly, West Philly, Yeadon or Darby you can call my office at 215-748-6712, email repmcclinton@pahouse.net, connect with me on social media @repmcclinton on all platforms or visit my office at 149 South 60th Street.
