Malagari & Collett present $1.4M in state funding for Lansdale Borough to improve parks

LANSDALE, Oct. 28 – State Rep. Steve Malagari and state Sen. Maria Collett recently visited York & Susquehanna Park to present Lansdale Borough with more than $1.4 million in state grant funding for rehabilitation and improvement projects at two of the borough’s parks. They were joined by Borough Manager John Ernst, Parks and Recreation Director Courtney Fox, Council Members Carrie Oglesby and Meg Currie Teoh, and Police Chief Ryan Devlin.

The borough received $824,174 to rehabilitate Memorial Park by replacing sidewalks and curbs, improving parking and adding more shade trees. The funding came through the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which distributes state gaming revenues to support community projects via the Local Share Account program.

The borough also received $366,432 in LSA funds, plus $238,500 from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Community Conservation Partnerships Program, to improve York & Susquehanna Park. Upgrades will include new playground equipment, a shade structure, seating and safer rubber surfacing.

“Parks are an essential part of a thriving community,” said Malagari. “They provide a place where neighbors can gather, where children can play and where people can connect to nature. I am proud to have helped to contribute to improvements that will benefit this community for generations to come.”

"Our parks are the gems of our community, and it's important that people feel safe, welcome and excited to use them,” Fox said. “We’re grateful to Rep. Malagari and Sen. Collett for supporting upgrades to the playground equipment at York & Susquehanna Park and much-needed sidewalk repairs and parking lot paving at Memorial Park. These improvements will help make our parks more accessible and give neighbors more opportunities to connect and play.”
