Malagari secures $85,000 grant for Hatfield American Legion

Check presented during 80th anniversary celebration will fund parking lot improvements

HATFIELD, Oct. 14 – State Rep. Steve Malagari presented an $85,000 grant to the Hatfield American Legion on Oct. 3 during the organization’s 80th birthday celebration. The funding will be used to pave and improve the Legion’s parking lot and was awarded through a program from the state Department of Community and Economic Development.

The investment will help the Legion address needed improvements to its property, improving access for the many veterans, families and community members who use their facilities.

"On behalf of the entire membership of Hatfield Post #933 American Legion, our sincere appreciation for Rep. Steve Malagari's and his office staff's efforts in helping us to secure a state funding grant,” said Tom Harwick, who works in the Legion’s finance office. “With us now able to resurface our entire parking lot with this grant, we can now further assure the safety and convenience of our membership and guest patrons as they traverse across the parking lot to access our facility.”

“It was especially meaningful to present this check on the Hatfield American Legion’s 80th birthday,” said Malagari. “For eight decades, this organization has been a place where veterans are honored, families come together and the community can gather. This grant will help make sure the Legion can continue that work well into the future.”

The Hatfield American Legion has a long history of service to the community. The post was chartered on Oct. 3, 1946, and has remained an active part of the North Penn community for more than 75 years. Its Legion family includes Legionnaires, the Sons of the American Legion, the Auxiliary and American Legion Riders.
