Malagari secures $66,000 state grant for Franconia Police equipment

FRANCONIA TOWNSHIP, Oct. 5 -- State Rep. Steve Malagari announced today that he secured a $66,000 state grant for the Franconia Township Police Department through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.

The department will use the funding to source new body cameras and replace patrol car video cameras with new equipment. It will also purchase an e-bike for officers to use on patrol.

These equipment upgrades will help ensure transparency when officers interact with the community, and aid in ongoing community outreach efforts by the Franconia Police Department.

"These officers work to serve their community every day, and everyone benefits when we have a clear record of those encounters,” said Malagari. “I was proud to secure this funding, and I thank Chief Martin and Township Manager Hammer for their work on the application.”

"We appreciate all Rep. Malagari does for Franconia Township. This funding will help provide important resources to better serve and protect our residents,” said Jon Hammer, manager of Franconia Township.

"Through the generous support of a grant acquired by Rep. Malagari, we were able to replace our outdated body-worn camera and in-car video systems and purchase an electric bike for patrol. This equipment is a vital part of bringing officers closer to the community and increasing transparency,” said Franconia Township Police Chief Michael Martin.
