Kulik applauds $10,000 America250PA grant for Capt. Thomas Espy Post in Carnegie

Funding to support preservation of Civil War uniform pieces for public display

CARNEGIE, June 16 – The effort to preserve Civil War uniform pieces for public display at the Captain Thomas Espy Post inside the Andrew Carnegie Free Library in Carnegie has received a $10,000 Semiquincentennial Grant from America250PA, announced state Rep. Anita Kulik, D-Allegheny.

“This funding will help protect Civil War artifacts from one of the last and most complete Grand Army of the Republic posts in the country,” Kulik said. “The Espy post is not only a local treasure for the Carnegie community, but a significant resource for anyone who is interested in the legacy of the Civil War and the veterans who used this space to tell their story.”

Semiquincentennial Grants from America250PA are made possible through support from Governor Josh Shapiro and the Pennsylvania legislature. The grants are intended to support educational, civic, and celebratory events and programs leading up to the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States on July 4, 2026.

Kulik serves on the Infrastructure Improvements and Projects Committee of the America250PA Commission. More information about America250PA can be found at www.america250pa.org.
