My farewell remarks to the House, wrapping up the Legislative Session and more

APPROACHING THE END OF MY TERM

It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since I first took office to represent my neighbors in Allegheny County and that the end of my term is approaching. It is bittersweet to be leaving, but it has been an amazing experience and a true privilege. Thank you for trusting me to be your voice in Harrisburg!

DELIVERING FOR YOU AT THE CAPITOL

I want to highlight some of the bills that my House colleagues and I recently passed that will help our neighbors and improve communities:

  • We’re protecting your privacy while maintaining public safety by regulating the use of Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs), like Flock cameras (HB 2771).
  • We’re improving access to healthcare by requiring private insurance and Medicaid coverage for preventative measures, testing, and treatments for osteoporosis, beginning at the onset of menopause (HB 1827). We’re also requiring health insurance coverage for colorectal cancer screenings beginning at age 45 (HB 1123) and establishing a firefighter cancer screening program (HB 2826).
  • We’re putting more money back in families’ pockets by updating the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit program to align with recent federal updates (HB 2706).

I want to thank my colleague, Rep. Natalie Mihalek, for her work on HB 961. As chair of the House Game & Fisheries Committee, I believe this bill is important because it would require warnings about low-head dams, which would help protect boaters, kayakers, and swimmers and save lives. It’s a great example of bipartisan work for the common good.
