Thank you to Trooper Melinda Bondarenka of the Pennsylvania State Police for organizing last week’s Shop With A Cop event, and to Macy’s for sponsoring and hosting. I was glad to join Sen. Devlin Robinson in providing backpacks and school supplies for the 10 local kids who participated. A big thank you as well to all the officers who shopped with the kids, especially those from the Robinson, Stowe, and McKees Rocks Police Departments.

In observance of Labor Day, my office will be closing at noon on Friday, August 29 and closed Monday, September 1. I hope you have a safe and enjoyable weekend.

The 2026 DEP Environmental Education Grants application period is now open.

Educators, schools, conservation districts, nonprofits, and local businesses can apply for funding to support projects that help people of all ages learn how to care for Pennsylvania’s land, air, water, and climate. From schoolyard gardens to clean water initiatives, if you have the idea, we may have the funding.

Grant sizes:
• Seed: $5,000 or less
• Grow: $5,001–$30,000
• Impact: $30,001–$65,000

Apply by Nov. 14, 2025 at dep.pa.gov/grants.
