REAL ID ENFORCEMENT BEGINS MAY 7

This is a friendly reminder that the federal enforcement for REAL ID begins on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. A REAL ID, a U.S. Passport or Military ID will be needed to board a domestic air flight or visit a federal government building that requires one.

Getting a REAL ID is optional. If you do need REAL ID, PennDOT is holding special dedicated time at certain driver license centers to help Pennsylvanians get their REAL ID.

If you don’t have a REAL ID and aren’t planning to fly or visit a federal facility immediately after May 7, don’t worry! You will always be able to upgrade to a REAL ID, even after the enforcement deadline and when it is convenient to you.
