FOLSOM, May 6 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger will host a drive-through food drive from 10 a.m. to noon May 16 in the parking lot of the Brookhaven Municipal Center, 2 Cambridge Road, Brookhaven. Community members who wish to donate nonperishable food or toiletry items can drive through the parking lot, and Krueger and her staff will get donations directly from the trunks of vehicles. “Now more than ever, some of our neighbors need our help. We can continue to support them while we practice social distancing and limit our contact with one another,” said Krueger, D-Delaware. “I know residents want to help out however they can, and I hope this event makes it easy to support each other while protecting our health, too.” The donations collected will be given to Real Church and Foundry Church to be distributed. The most requested items include cereal, snack bars, macaroni and cheese, SpaghettiOs, canned tuna and chicken, and soups. Gift cards to local grocery stores will also be accepted. Pastors at the churches cited increased need and decreasing donations as more individuals are facing hardships due to COVID-19, Krueger said. The House Democratic Labor and Industry Committee offered the following updates on unemployment compensation on April 26: Claims stuck due to people using the same address for their business and home was fixed by IT, which addressed 46,000 claims in queue. These claims will likely be denied as individuals probably should have applied for PUA. The Department of Labor and Industry will be providing additional notification to denied individuals. For people having issues not receiving the $600 payments – the payments are made automatically but not at the same time. The most someone might wait was if they file benefits on Friday then must wait for next cycle or about 12-13 days. The Labor and Industry mail room is operating three shifts a day, seven days a week. Pin numbers continue to be issued. Mail for relief of charges will take a few more days. Mail for various other L&I programs are being processed in a timely fashion. Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) Program L&I has made about $490 million payments so far under the $600 FPUC. Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) The application is functional right now; but the benefit system is still under construction. Approximately 90,000 successful PUA applications since April 18. The goal is to have payments going out in early May. Claimants are not currently seeing an accurate determination amount. Read more

FOLSOM, April 7 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger led a bipartisan call for the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to reopen access to the COVID-19 Working Capital Access Program as soon as possible by refilling the loan program with any available discretionary funds and allocating any available federal CARES Act funds to the effort. The COVID-19 Working Capital Access Program launched March 25 to provide loans for Pennsylvania small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with a total of around $60 million available. Applications quickly surpassed available funding and the program was closed within days. “Delaware County has been hard hit by COVID-19, but only 13 applications from within our county were submitted online before the program closed. Hundreds of our small businesses were shut out and unable to access this critical resource,” said Krueger, D-Delaware. “The Working Capital Access program fills a unique need for our locally owned small businesses, which will be key to creating jobs and rebuilding our local economy after this health crisis. I, along with my fellow Delaware County lawmakers, believe it is imperative that the program be recapitalized as quickly as possible.” Krueger organized a bipartisan group of state representatives and senators to send a letter to DCED Secretary Dennis Davin, urging additional funding for the program.
