Krueger announces $1.6M in state grants in 161st Legislative District

HARRISBURG, March 16 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, announced that Commonwealth Financing Authority today approved $1.6 million in grants for several local projects in the 161st Legislative District.

The following were approved in the district:

  • Concord Road Streetscape in Aston Township: Pedestrian safety improvements along Concord Road, $250,000.
  • Walkable Wallingford in Nether Providence Township: Install sidewalks along Providence Road, $250,000.
  • Civic access for Public Meetings in Nether Providence Township: Accessibility updates to the township building located in Nether Providence Township, $489,100.
    • The project will install an elevator/automatic door opener and complete renovations to the walls, windows, and roof of the building entrance.
  • Police Facilities & Equipment Upgrades in Chester Township: $288,075.
    • Chester Township plans to complete building upgrades to the police department to reduce workplace hazards, improve ADA accessibility to the station, and upgrade the IT system. The project includes upgrading the building parking lot and sidewalks, the interior furnishings, evidence room, restroom, and replace the leaking roof and malfunctioning garage doors.
  • Red Hill Road Acquisition in Aston Township: Purchase of a 43-acre parcel, $200,000.
    • The proposed project will purchase a 43-acre parcel of land comprised of an open meadow, forest and steep slopes to be preserved as a passive township park. The project will prevent future development in this area that will allow for township residents to have a permanent outdoor space.
  • Chester Creek Trail Phase 4 Feasibility Study in Chester Township: $115,000.
    • Phase 4 crosses Chester Township in southern Delaware County, where there are several environmental concerns, including the wastewater treatment plant, an incinerator, and a landfill. There is concern with protecting users of the trail from any hazards being emitted from those land uses. This study will identify the best alignment to protect trail users and develop cost estimates for the segment’s future construction.

“These sizeable investments in our Delco communities are a welcome development from the Shapiro administration and reflect highly on our region’s commitment to its residents,” Krueger said. “Thank you to all of the municipal and county staff work that went into applying for these opportunities. Their work keeps local taxes down and our quality of life among the best in the commonwealth.”

The grants were awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which oversees the state’s distribution of gaming revenues to support public projects.
