Dear Neighbor,
On Thursday, I was honored to participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new ChristianaCare microhospital in Aston. It was an exciting day because it is the first new emergency room location in Delaware County since Crozer-Chester Medical Center closed just over a year ago. I have been working closely with ChristianaCare on this project, supporting them through the red tape of the regulatory process, and I am grateful that they were responsive to my requests to use local skilled labor on the project and to hire as many former Crozer employees as possible. I learned this week that 70% of the employees that have been hired at this site are former Crozer or Taylor employees, which means we get to keep these essential healthcare workers here in our community. While this location can’t replace a full hospital, it is an important first step to restoring healthcare in Delco.
While the hospital will open for patients in early June, there is a Community Open House this Saturday from 12-3pm. Stop by and see this new location for yourself!

This past week, I was honored to attend Memorial Day services in Brookhaven and Aston to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our county. I’m grateful to have joined our veterans, local officials, and residents for these meaningful ceremonies of remembrance.
I also want to remind you that my district office is still collecting children’s books throughout the month of May. We are partnering with Delco Books for a Brighter Start to help put new and gently used children’s books directly into the hands of students who need them most. Please see the flyer below for details on how to how you can donate.

Investing in public safety in Aston Township
|
Last Monday, I joined Sen. John Kane and local officials to make an exciting check presentation at the Aston Township Fire Department. I have been working with the Aston Township Fire Department to get approval and funding for this project for a number of years and I am so excited that they are finally able to move forward.
The grant we supported includes more than $575,000 to support renovations to the second floor of the fire station, including new dorm-style rooms, bathrooms, and electrical and plumbing upgrades to help support a live-in firefighting program.
Investments like these are important to ensure our first responders have the resources and facilities they need to continue serving and protecting our community.

Helping seniors plan for the future
|
Last week, I hosted a free Senior Wills Clinic in Chester Township in partnership with Sen. John Kane and Legal Aid of Southeastern PA. During the clinic, seniors from across the district had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with an attorney to prepare important legal documents, including wills, financial powers of attorney, and healthcare directives.
I was grateful to the attorneys who volunteered their time to help provide this important service to residents in our community and to ensure seniors have access to the resources they need to plan for the future and protect their wishes. Thank you to everyone who participated and to our partners for helping to make this event possible.

A well deserved Eagle Scout honor
|
On Thursday, I was honored to present a House citation to Franklin Griffin of Boy Scout Troop 277 in Wallingford in recognition of earning the rank of Eagle Scout.
For his Eagle Scout project, Franklin installed a fire ring and seating area at Leiper Park in Nether Providence Township, creating a welcoming community space.
Congratulations to Franklin on this incredible achievement and thank you for giving back to the community through your hard work and service.

Brookhaven Memorial Day Ceremony
|
Last Thursday, I started my Memorial Day weekend at the Brookhaven Borough American Legion Post 94 Memorial Day Service. I joined Mayor Marino Giancroce, Brookhaven Council President Dan Burke, the Knights of Columbus, the Brookhaven Boy and Girl Scouts, veterans, and members of the community to honor the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to our country.
Thank you to everyone who helped organize this meaningful ceremony and to all who attended to pay their respects.

American Legion Post 94 Memorial Day Parade and Service
|
On Memorial Day, my staff and I joined the members of American Legion Post 926 in Aston Township for their annual parade and ceremony. Thankfully, the rain stopped right before the parade kicked off, and it turned out to be a beautiful day to come together as a community to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
I was proud to stand alongside the Aston Township Fire and Police Departments, the Penn-Delco Sun Valley High School Marching band and color guard, Girl Scout Troop 528, Boy Scout Troops 292 and 77, and the Women’s Auxiliary of Post 926.
Following the parade, American Legion Post 926 held a special ceremony to remember and honor our brave servicemen and women. We were also grateful to hear from the St. James Choir during the service. It was a moving tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of those who served our country and made the ultimate sacrifice.
