Upcoming May Events

Dear Neighbor,

It’s another busy week in Harrisburg as we return for voting session. Last week, I was back in the district meeting with constituents and local organizations. I also hosted our PA MEDI workshop in Ridley Township – thank you to everyone who came out.

I want to make sure you’re aware of several upcoming events this week and throughout the month of May.

Community Blood Drive – Thursday, April 30 | 9 AM – 2 PM

This week, I am hosting a blood drive with the American Red Cross at the Aston Community Center, and I hope you’ll consider signing up to donate.

As a thank you, the American Red Cross is offering a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of your choice when you donate!

Please note that the online registration website is currently down. If you would like to sign up to donate at the upcoming blood drive, please call 1-800-733-2767 to register.

License Plate Restoration Event – Thursday, May 7 | 4 PM – 6 PM

Is your PA license plate faded, peeling, or hard to read? I am teaming up with Rep. David Delloso and Sen. Tim Kearney to help you get your FREE replacement license plate at the Ridley Township Municipal Building. Give my office a call to make sure you have the required PennDOT form to bring with you.

Children’s Book Drive – Month of May

I am hosting a children’s book drive throughout the month of May in partnership with Delco Books for a Brighter Start. We will be collecting new and gently used children’s books to help put books directly into the hands of students who need them. There are several drop-off locations, including my district office. If you have any questions, call my office at 610-534-6880, and be sure to check the flyer for all drop-off locations.

Reproductive Autonomy is a Right

Last Monday, the Commonwealth Court struck down a ban on public funding for abortion, ruling it unconstitutional and recognizing reproductive autonomy as a right.

For decades, this policy denied coverage to those with the fewest resources, creating a clear inequity in access to care.

This is a significant and long-overdue step forward for protecting reproductive rights in Pennsylvania, affirming that decisions about a woman’s body should remain her own. Abortion is part of comprehensive healthcare, and access to care should not be limited by government interference.

At the Capitol

I’m happy to share that my legislation, HB 1104, which I co-sponsored with Rep. Tim Brennan, passed the Pennsylvania House on Monday with strong bipartisan support.

This bill is about making it easier and more affordable for people to access their own medical records. Right now, outdated laws allow for high fees, especially for electronic records. This legislation updates those rules by capping the cost at $200 for electronic medical records, no matter how large the file is.

Accessing your health information shouldn’t come with a financial burden. This is a commonsense step to modernize our laws and make our healthcare system a little easier to navigate for patients and families.

Data Centers and Our Communities

There’s been a lot of discussion in recent months about the impact of data centers in Pennsylvania. As these facilities expand, we must stay focused on protecting our communities and holding large companies accountable. That means keeping utility costs down for ratepayers, safeguarding access to clean water, and supporting responsible, sustainable technological growth.

Pennsylvania families shouldn’t see their electric bills skyrocket because of increased demand from data centers.

Yesterday, with bipartisan support, the House passed H.B. 2246. This legislation would require date centers to disclose their water usage to the Commonwealth, as these facilities often use substantial amounts of water. It’s an important step to safeguard access to our freshwater and protect our communities.

We’ve already taken steps earlier this month to protect our community from data centers.

H.B. 2150 - would require data center developers to disclose key details about their operations, including energy and water usage, to the state, helping to ensure accountability for companies looking to build in our communities

H.B. 2151 – would give municipalities the authority to regulate data centers through voluntary local ordinances, allowing them to address concerns such as noise, location, equipment, and building design.

Last month, we passed H.B 1834, which has been sent to the Senate. This legislation ensures that energy costs associated with large data centers are not passed onto residential customers or small businesses.

Delta Day at the Capitol

Today, I had the pleasure of meeting with the Chester Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. during Delta Day at the Pennsylvania State Capitol. Their visit focused on civic engagement and legislative advocacy, both of which are important to our communities.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a public service organization, and the Chester Alumnae Chapter does an incredible job serving the Delaware County community. I appreciated the opportunity to connect and discuss the issues that matter most to them.

Supporting nonprofits across Pennsylvania

On Monday, I met with representatives from the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO) during Nonprofit Advocacy Day at the Capitol.

We discussed the important role nonprofits play in strengthening our communities and supporting residents across the state. I appreciated the opportunity to hear more about their work and the resources needed to help nonprofits continue delivering critical services.

If you are part of a local nonprofit organization as a staffer or Board member, PANO can be a great resource for you. Read more about what they have to offer at Home - Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations. They have recorded a fireside chat on how to start a nonprofit in Pennsylvania – visit Starting a Nonprofit Organization in Pennsylvania - Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations.

Supporting local brewers and agriculture

Last week, I took part in a roundtable discussion with Pennsylvania beer brewers at the Craft Brewers Conference to learn more about the challenges facing Pennsylvania’s craft beer industry.

With more than 65 breweries closing across the Commonwealth in the past two years, it’s clear that rising costs and economic pressures are taking a toll. My colleague Rep. Ryan Bizzarro introduced H.B. 2234, the Brews to Barns Act, which would provide a tax credit to brewers while also supporting local farmers and strengthening Pennsylvania’s agricultural economy. I have also co-sponsored House Bill 2340, which would upgrade the Malt Beverage Tax Credit Program and empower smaller brewers to team up with larger brewers.

In the District

Helping residents navigate Medicare

Last Tuesday, I hosted a Medicare 101 workshop at the Ridley Township Public Library. We had a great turnout, with attendees learning about Medicare basics, enrollment timelines, supplemental plans, co-pays, and deductibles.

Participants also had the opportunity to ask questions from a trained PA MEDI counselor. It was an engaged group and I’m glad we could provide helpful information to residents as they navigate their healthcare options.

My office also offers monthly one-on-one PA MEDI appointments with a trained counselor. If you’d like an appointment, give my office a call.

Honoring Jean Flara on her 100th birthday milestone

I was truly honored to present a citation to Jean Flara in celebration of her incredible 100th birthday! Reaching this remarkable milestone is a testament to a life well lived, filled with experiences, wisdom, and resilience.

Wishing her a very happy 100th birthday and moments of joy surrounded by family and loved ones!

Supporting our community at home

While I was in the district, I had the opportunity to meet with a nonprofit organization called Beyond the Walls CDC, based in Chester Township. This organization is doing meaningful work to connect residents with important resources and support services right in the community.

Efforts like these play a vital role in strengthening our neighborhoods and ensuring that individuals and families have access to the tools they need to thrive. I’m grateful for the chance to learn more about their work and look forward to continuing to support partnerships like this that make real difference in Delaware County.

Public Meeting on I-95/U.S. 322 Interchange Improvement Project

The public is invited to attend a public meeting hosted by PennDOT, on April 30 from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM to learn about the proposed project to improve the I-95/U.S. 322 Interchange in Chester and Upper Chichester townships, and the City of Chester.

The purpose of the public meetings is to update the community on the proposed improvement project and to gather comments and feedback on proposed design concepts. The meeting will be conducted as an Open House where attendees will have the opportunity to circulate among the subject displays to gather information and discuss the different facets of the project with PennDOT’s design team. Pre-registration is not required.

The project is focused on the section of I-95 from Route 452 to Kerlin St. and the section of U.S. 322 from Bethel Rd. Interchange to the Commodore Barry Bridge ramps from I-95. This project is part of a larger effort to reconstruct and improve I-95 in Pennsylvania.
