Grants in the District, an ICE update, and more

My spring newsletter is on its way to mailboxes across the district this week! If you’d like an early look, you can check it out now on my website.

I'm pleased to share that Neumann University has been awarded a $20,000 PA Hunger-Free Campus Grant to help address student food insecurity. I visited the food pantry on campus a few years ago and have seen firsthand how they are supporting their students.

This funding will expand access to food resources and support students so they can focus on their education and success.

Governor’s advisory on ICE activities at health care & social service facilities

I want to share some important information from a recent advisory issued by Gov. Shapiro concerning possible immigration enforcement activities at health care and social service facilities.

Last year, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security lifted restrictions that had previously limited ICE from carrying out immigration enforcement in protected areas, including health care and social service facilities. According to the governor’s advisory, this means DHS may attempt to conduct enforcement activities at places such as hospitals, doctors’ offices, urgent care centers, vaccination or testing sites, crisis centers, domestic violence shelters, and other health care and social service locations.

The governor’s advisory contains information about interacting with agents, warrants and subpoenas, and considerations for facility leadership. You can read the full advisory here.

If you are looking for ways to support community members and learn more, UDTJ, a local nonprofit organization based in Upper Darby, is organizing training sessions on how bystanders can respond to ICE presence in their communities. The next training is on Saturday, March 14 from 6 PM – 8 PM.

Please RSVP for address.

If you have concerns about federal policies or actions, I encourage you to reach out directly to your federally elected representatives to share your views and let them know which issues matter most to you.

A Morning with Delaware County Libraries

Last Friday, I attended the Delaware County Libraries Legislative Breakfast at the Middletown Free Library. It was a great opportunity to celebrate the important role our public libraries play in our communities from providing educational resources, technology access, and programming for residents of all ages.

The Delaware County Libraries Board also presented awards recognizing outstanding support for libraries across our county. Congratulations to Bill DeFeo, Aston Township Manager, who was honored with the Extraordinary Public Official Award.

I was glad to join my colleagues and members of the Delaware County Libraries Board for this wonderful morning celebrating the value of our local libraries and the people who support them.

Important Programs & Services

Consumer Protection Resources for Pennsylvanians

Pennsylvania’s new centralized consumer protection initiative is already helping thousands of residents resolve scams, insurance disputes, and financial concerns.

Since launching the statewide “no wrong door” consumer protection hotline, website, and email in May 2025, more than 10,000 consumers have visited pa.gov/consumer and hundreds of Pennsylvanians have contacted the hotline or emailed for assistance.

These centralized tools make it easier than ever to report scams, resolve issues, and connect directly with the appropriate state agency—whether the concern involves insurance, lending, utilities, or financial exploitation.

If you believe you have been the victim of a scam or need help resolving a financial issue, you can reach the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities at 1-866-PACOMPLAINT, visit pa.gov/consumer or email consumer@pa.gov.

Let us help you look for unclaimed property

About 1 in 10 Pennsylvanians have unclaimed property, including dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, rebates, and insurance payments.

The good news is that thanks to Pennsylvania’s new PA Money Match Program, certain unclaimed property valued at up to $500 can now be returned automatically to eligible residents. That means in some cases there is no searching, paperwork, or forms required, the funds are simply sent back to their rightful owners.

Even with the new program, many may still have unclaimed property waiting for them. My office can help check to see if any money belongs to you by calling 610-534-6880.

You can also search here any time.

Tax season reminders

As you begin gathering your paperwork to file your taxes by the April 15 deadline, I want to make sure eligible residents are aware of new state tax credits that can put real money back into the pockets of working families.

Last year, I voted for the creation of the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit as part of the state budget. Modeled after the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), this new credit can provide up to $805 in tax relief for eligible workers.

If you qualify for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), you’ll automatically receive the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit when you file both your federal and PA state tax returns online at the same time. This tax cut builds on the expansion of the Child and Dependent Care Enhancement Tax Credit, continuing our work to make like more affordable for Pennsylvania families.

We have tax forms

My office has tax forms available for you. If we don't have the specific form you need, we’re happy to print it for you. Stop by the office or give us a call.
