Where to Celebrate the 4th in Delco, Pushing for Transit Funding, and More!

Dear Neighbor,

I’ve gotten a number of calls and emails from neighbors who are concerned about cuts to the SEPTA service so many folks in Delco use to get to work, to school and to medical appointments. Two weeks ago, the House passed a mass transit bill that would invest almost $300 million into transit solutions across PA. If approved by the Senate, it will be the most significant transit funding increase we’ve seen in over 10 years.

This is the fourth time that the PA House has voted for transit investments but every bill has stalled in the PA Senate. It’s time for the PA Senate to take up this important legislation. House Bill 1364 would

  • Use existing sales tax revenue to fund transit without raising taxes – it would increase the sales tax contribution to transit from nearly 4% to over 6%.
  • Protect the 39,000 transit jobs that keep our system moving.
  • Invest $500 million into repairing and maintaining roads and bridges throughout the commonwealth.

Here in the Southeast, HB 1364 would ease the strain of SEPTA’s 2025-2026 budget, which they approved last week with a 45% service cut and 21.5% fare hike. The service cuts and increased fares will hit commuters in the late summer and early fall if the PA Senate doesn’t act.

Take action now by letting your Senators know you want them to fund mass transit in Pennsylvania: Pennsylvania House Democratic Caucus | Take Action

Legislative Update

I am back at the state Capitol this week for the fifth week in a row. Over the past month, my fellow Representatives and I have been working hard to move forward legislation to better support all Pennsylvanians and improve our communities. Some of the bills we’ve sent to the Senate include:

Federal Budget Update

While I’m here in Harrisburg, I’ve been closely following the budget debate in Washington, D.C. where the US Senate narrowly passed the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” earlier today with a vote of 51-50. The bill now goes back to Congress, who will need to vote on it again since changes were made in the US Senate.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office reported on Sunday that this version of the bill would add $3.3 trillion to the national deficit (more than the $2.4 trillion deficit increase in the version passed by Congress last month) and result in nearly $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid, causing 11.8 million Americans to lose their health care.

If this worries you like it worries me, now is the time to call your federal officials. Today Senator McCormick voted yes on the bill, Senator Fetterman voted no, and Congresswoman Scanlon will have a chance to vote on the bill very soon as it heads back to Congress for a vote.

It was an honor to celebrate with them!
