Stovepipe Hats Off to a Historic Effort

It was an honor to speak at the unveiling of the new Abraham Lincoln commemorative installation in Bristol Borough—marking the site of President-elect Lincoln’s only stop in Bucks County during his 1861 inaugural train journey.

This powerful display, located near Snyder-Girotti School, is the result of a true community effort. State Senator Steve Santarsiero and I were proud to help secure a $60,000 state grant to support this project and ensure this important moment in our local and national history is preserved for generations to come.

I want to extend my deepest thanks to Joe Pezza and Bristol Borough Raising the Bar for their vision, dedication, and hard work in making this tribute a reality. The installation features preserved tracks, steel silhouettes, historical signage, and even digital storytelling through QR codes—bringing history to life in a truly engaging way.

As I said at the event, this monument doesn’t just honor a brief stop made by a president on his way to Washington—it honors the spirit of community, history, and hope that defines Bristol Borough.

A video from the dedication ceremony is available at the link above—I hope you’ll take a moment to watch and share in this special moment with us.

Supporting Families This Summer: Free Meals and SUN Bucks

No child should go hungry this summer—and in Bucks County, they don’t have to.

The Bristol Township School District is offering free, nutritious meals to all children 18 and under. No sign-up or school ID is required. Meals are available now through August 21 and must be eaten on site. Breakfast is served from 8- 8:45 a.m., and lunch is served from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. at the Truman High School cafeteria.

In addition, Governor Shapiro’s administration is once again offering SUN Bucks, a federal summer EBT program that provides $120 per eligible child to help families cover grocery costs while school is out. Most families will receive SUN Bucks automatically. If you’re unsure whether you qualify, you can check your eligibility using the SUN Bucks Eligibility Navigator at dhs.pa.gov/SunBucks. The deadline to apply, if needed, is August 31.

To find additional free meal sites in your area, you can:

Together, we can ensure every child in our community stays nourished, supported, and ready for the school year ahead.

Bucks County Parks creates Parks Volunteer Alliance

Bucks County has launched the new Parks Volunteer Alliance, a county-wide program inviting community members to help care for and improve its parks. Whether you're passionate about nature, local history, or just looking to give back, the program offers a variety of ways to get involved.

Spanning more than 9,000 acres, Bucks County’s park system is one of the largest in Pennsylvania and includes well-loved spaces like Silver Lake Nature Center in Bristol. Volunteers of all ages, abilities, and experience levels are welcome, and there’s something for everyone—from planting trees and picking up litter to helping with animal care, greeting visitors at nature centers, or leading historic tours.

The program is kicking off with events throughout July, giving interested volunteers a chance to learn more and lend a hand.
