Infrastructure, Housing, Transportation, and Safety Funding Opportunities

Below are several grant programs that are currently open for applications. PROGRAMS NOW OPEN FOR APPLICATIONS: Historical & Museum Commission: Cultural and Historical Support Grant Program Who May Apply: Museums that are in Pennsylvania with annual operating budgets exceeding $100,000 (excluding capital and in-kind services) and at least one full-time professional staff person and that are not supported by other state agency funding programs and official County Historical Societies designated as the official historical society for the county. Use: The goal of this program is to strengthen Pennsylvania’s museums and allow applicants to determine how to use funds for operating expenses. Eligible expenses include, but are not limited to, salaries, benefits, insurance, food service, travel, professional development, marketing, and equipment. Funds: Grant awards range from $2,500 to $65,000. Legislation to better track maternal morbidity sent to Shapiro to become law

The Pennsylvania Women’s Health Caucus is applauding the unanimous House passage of legislation that would ensure proper data collection on maternal morbidity as lawmakers work to reduce the alarming number of pregnancy-related deaths in the state. House Health Committee reports out key bill to improve Black maternal health

Tori Bowie’s tragic death shows that a person’s socioeconomic situation does not matter in the maternal mortality crisis plaguing our nation, especially for Black women. When I think about Tori, her birthing journey should not have ended that way. Eclampsia, if it is caught early as preeclampsia, can be treated. It’s time to take all steps necessary to ensure that birthing people have the research, resources and support behind them as they move through their birthing journey. Read more

Representatives host Delta Day at state Capitol

HARRISBURG, May 3 – State Reps. Gina H. Curry, D-Delaware, La’Tasha D. Mayes, D-Allegheny, and Morgan Cephas, D-Philadelphia, said that they were proud to host Delta Day at the state Capitol on Tuesday. Delta Day is celebrated by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, which was founded in 1913 by 22 collegiate women on the campus of Howard University. Today, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated is one of the preeminent service-based sororities, with predominantly more than 300,000 Black members and more than 1,000 chapters worldwide. The sorority has maintained a commitment to social activism, academic excellence and civic engagement. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated has 29 chapters in Pennsylvania. A ‘very serious conversation’: Pa. House panel hears fixes on maternal mortality crisis

The hearing, led by state Rep. Gina Curry, D-Delaware, who serves as co-chair of the Pennsylvania Women’s Health Caucus, focused on addressing the maternal mortality crisis, which disproportionately affects women and birthing people of color. “This is a very serious conversation,” Curry said. “We have a very serious crisis going on.” Read more
