Conklin announces over $1 million investment in traffic signal upgrades

STATE COLLEGE, Aug. 4 – Today, state Rep. Scott Conklin announced that more than $1 million in funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Green Light-Go Program will go toward traffic signal upgrades in his district.
Of the funding, $997,755.40 will go to State College Borough to extend the communication network between four adjacent signals and upgrade detection at the following intersections:
- University Drive and Ramp A-1, Ramp D-1 and Hastings Road.
- North Atherton Street and Hillcrest Avenue, West Park Avenue, Curtin Road, White Course Drive and Macadam Approach to Bus Depot.
- South Atherton Street and Beaver Avenue, Westerly Parkway and South Allen Street.
- University Drive/University Drive Extension and East Branch Road, West College Avenue, North Atherton Street and South Atherton Street.
Additionally, $69,228.26 was awarded to Patton Township for pedestrian and traffic signal modernization upgrades at the following intersections:
- Colonnade Boulevard and Colonnade Way.
- Colonnade Boulevard and Kohl’s Drive.
- Waddle Road and Colonnade Boulevard.
Grants under the program are provided as reimbursements to municipalities for projects that improve the efficiency of existing traffic signals. Across the commonwealth, 86 municipalities will receive a total of $38 million in funding from the program.
“Whether someone travels by car, bus or bike, we need to make sure their safety remains top of mind,” Conklin said. “This funding will make sure we reduce congestion and improve traffic flow, particularly in a busy area of State College, improving both traffic safety and mobility. I appreciate PennDOT’s significant investment into keeping our traffic signals operational and effective.”
