Conklin releases statement on Corrections’ final report recommending closure of SCI Rockview, Quehanna Boot Camp

STATE COLLEGE, Sept. 17 -- State Rep. Scott Conklin, D-Centre, today issued the following statement on the announcement that the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections has recommended closure of SCI Rockview and the Quehanna Boot Camp:

“This decision is a gut-punch to our area,” he said.

“Rockview and Quehanna are both professionally operated by dedicated officers and staff, most of whom are our friends, neighbors and family. Although these facilities are outside of my district, I worked in a bipartisan manner in the fight to save these institutions. Based on the reports I reviewed, which gave Rockview and Quehanna high marks, this decision makes absolutely no sense. I stand ready to support my colleagues, the corrections officers, staff, and their families in the difficult days ahead.”
