The event, marked this year with the theme “Roots, Resilience & Results: Dominican Immigrants Powering Pennsylvania,” recognized the 182nd anniversary of the Dominican Republic declaring independence after centuries of Spanish colonialism and 22 years of Haitian control, which ended on Feb. 27, 1844.
