Budget Season Approaches - How to Stay Informed
|
June is quickly approaching, which marks the busiest time of the year in Harrisburg. My colleagues and I will be in the Capitol nearly every single day of the month as we negotiate and enact a budget that will support working-class Pennsylvanians.
I am proud to represent our community in Berks County, and I look forward to ensuring that we receive the funding and support in this budget that our neighbors deserve - to fund our schools, improve our infrastructure, and more.
You can stay up to date with our work, both in committee and on the floor, on the House's website, which includes details on legislation and livestreams of our deliberations. I will also continue to provide updates on the budget process in my weekly emails.

Making Electric Vehicles More Accessible
|
I had the opportunity to join state Rep. Greg Scott and several of my colleagues in King of Prussia to learn more about how we can make electric vehicles more easily accessible.
Current Pennsylvania law makes it illegal for most electric vehicle companies, except Tesla, to directly sell to consumers, requiring workarounds such as finalizing sales outside the store. We toured a service center to learn more about electric vehicle production and visited Tesla and Rivian stores to hear about differences in customer experiences.
Rep. Scott has introduced legislation that I am proud to support, which would make this process easier and provide more competition in the industry. You can learn more about the bill here.

Supporting Pennsylvania's Dominican Community
|
Last Monday, I joined state Rep. Ana Tiburcio to meet with Celinés Toribio, the Vice Minister for Dominican Communities Abroad, in Allentown to discuss the challenges and needs of Dominican Americans in Pennsylvania.
We appreciate the meaningful and productive meeting, and we look forward to collaborating to support our Dominican neighbors throughout Pennsylvania.

You May Have Unclaimed Property - We Can Help!
|
Many Pennsylvanians have unclaimed property -- money from dormant bank accounts, insurance payments, and uncashed checks -- and you may be one of them!
My office can help you receive this unclaimed property. Contact us or go to PATreasury.gov/unclaimed-property to see if there is anything available in your name.

Touring West Reading with Governor Shapiro
|
Main Streets are the backbones of every community in Pennsylvania, providing business opportunities and the ability for each of us to connect with our neighbors - and they deserve adequate funding.
That's why it was great to join Gov. Josh Shapiro, state Sen. Judy Schwank, and Mayor Samantha Kaag to tour small businesses in West Reading and announce millions in grant funding for communities across Pennsylvania.
|
An especially important grant from this program is coming right back to our community. I'm proud to share that the West Reading Community Revitalization Fund has received $60,000 in funding to improve the façade of the West Reading Motor Club.
This locally owned restaurant is based in a building at 416 Penn Ave., where it has stood for over 110 years. This funding will allow for repairs to the building to make West Reading an even greater destination for folks from across Pennsylvania.

New Economic Development in Reading
|
Last week, I had the opportunity to attend a tour of the new Reading-based headquarters of EthoSource and Wyatt Seating. Founded in 2001 and originally based in Morgantown, this office furniture company will now call Reading home!
I also joined state Rep. Jacklyn Rusnock to present a House Citation to the company's president, John Gallen, to mark this new move. Congratulations to all the employees of EthoSource, and I look forward to seeing this company grow in our community!

Breaking Ground on a New Spring Township Park
|
Spring Township will soon see a newly renovated park, as Phase 1 of construction has officially started at what will become West Wyomissing Park in Spring Township! It was exciting to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for this incredible project.
|
I sat on the panel for Youth Empowerment Day, hosted by Berks Latino Workforce Development Corp., to discuss my work and how I became a legislator, and to guide local students on how they can take control of their lives and make positive change in our community.
|
It was an honor to attend the Salvation Army of Reading's Annual Civic Luncheon, where community leaders, businesses, and supporters come together to recognize outstanding service and collaborate in making a meaningful impact on our community.
This year's event recognized Ann Marie Haus with the Spirit of Reading Award for selfless dedication to our community and also presented William G Koch Sr. & Associates with the Others Award for their contributions to the Salvation Army for over a decade. Congratulations to the recipients of these outstanding awards!

Reading Pride Flag Raising
|
Reading Pride and the City of Reading will be holding a Pride Month Flag Raising Ceremony to mark Pride Month on Sunday, May 31, at 2PM at Reading City Park.
As the Pride flag rises over our city, we come together in celebration, visibility, and solidarity with our LGBTQ+ community. This ceremony is more than a tradition — it is a reminder that every person deserves to feel seen, valued, safe, and supported right here in Berks County.
