It was an honor to join Governor Josh Shapiro, Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis, and several of my legislative colleagues to mark the completion of the state budget!

On Sunday, I joined colleagues from both sides of the aisle to pass the 2026-27 fiscal year budget. No budget is perfect, especially one that comes out of divided government, but this year's budget will invest in working Pennsylvanians and support all of us - all while keeping the state's cash reserves untouched and making no new taxes!

This budget makes meaningful investments that will benefit our community by:

• Strengthening our schools with continued investments in public education,
  school safety, special education, career training, and higher education.
• Helping working families keep more of what they earn through tax relief while
  making housing, utilities, and back-to-school shopping more affordable.
• Creating jobs and growing our economy by supporting small businesses,
  workforce training, agriculture, and economic development across Pennsylvania.
• Keeping communities safe with investments in violence prevention, first
  responders, after-school programs, and services for survivors of crime.
• Supporting seniors, veterans, and retirees through enhanced retirement security
  and expanded access to important services.
• This budget gives our retired teachers, police officers, and firefighters a long
  overdue raise.
• Protecting taxpayers by modernizing government, improving accountability, and
  making smart investments that deliver long-term value.

This budget is focused on practical solutions that help families succeed today while building a stronger Pennsylvania for tomorrow. By investing in education,
affordability, public safety, and economic opportunity, we’re delivering results that
improve everyday life for all Pennsylvanians.

In addition, our local school districts will see significant budget increases compared to last year, including:

• Reading: $28.5 million (9.7% increase)
• Wilson: $2.2 million (9.7% increase)
• Wyomissing Area: $171,000 (3.6% increase)

A good education is vital for success, and I am proud to see that our students will get the support they need.

Applications for Property Tax/Rent Rebates are available, and the deadline to apply has now been extended to Dec. 31! This program gives money back to PA renters and homeowners for the taxes they paid in 2025 -- including seniors, widows and widowers, and those with disabilities.

Many Pennsylvanians have unclaimed property -- money from dormant bank accounts, insurance payments, and uncashed checks -- and you may be one of them!

My office can help you receive this unclaimed property. Contact us or go to PATreasury.gov/unclaimed-property to see if there is anything available in your name.

I had an incredible time at the 222 Corridor 3-on-3 Challenge as we wrapped up this incredible Summer of Soccer! The event included the 3-on-3 Challenge for kids ages 5-10, and a watch party for Spain vs. Belgium in the World Cup.

I am so proud of what this soccer series, which I helped to secure grant funding for, has become - providing opportunities for our community to connect and come together over the world's most popular sport, all while supporting local small businesses!

I had the opportunity to join Marcus Delgado, the deputy secretary of the Department of Education, to meet with local students and distribute summer meals at the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts as part of its Summer Meals Program.

The summertime can be a difficult period for parents and children, as many folks require school lunches to help keep their children fed. This incredible program helps to lift that barrier and make sure that every child has the nourishment they need.

The Reading Roots Market will be open every Thursday from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Goggleworks until October 8. In addition, every third Thursday, there will be a night market from 5 - 8 p.m.

Holcomb Crisis Intervention in West Reading offers a free crisis program to support our neighbors experiencing varying levels of crisis, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in both English and Spanish.

Routine mammograms are important to find the first signs of breast cancer. Tower Health is conducting its 2026 Mobile Mammography stops across our community. You can find locations and days here.
