Back in 2022, Burns helped Central Cambria and Westmont school districts obtain an initial $200,000 -- $100,000 each – for the teacher training and development program for the 2022-23 school year, and again has stepped up to help secure a second round of funding so the districts can continue the program. The Appalachian Regional Commission is offering a no-cost, nine-week virtual training program called READY Local Governments that will help local government administrators and officials learn about how to identify and plan a project and develop a federal grant application, as well as the regulations and compliance, and risk management, among other related topics. The low-interest loan was awarded by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority so the Ebensburg Municipal Authority can install a new stormwater collection and conveyance system, and replace deteriorated culvert pipes. Read more

“It’s ludicrous for DHS to need a ‘legal review’ to determine if anything related to the renovation work being done at the Hiram G. Andrews Center – which is state-owned – is a public record,” Burns said of the most recent delay. “Similarly, any reasonable person would assume that all documents related to this move are already on file, and that simple keyword searches of DHS emails could nail down within a few days the information I’m seeking.” Read more
The move by Burns, D-Cambria, adds bipartisan weight to H.B. 1840 – legislation embraced by Burns because he doesn’t think it fair for Pennsylvania taxpayers, at all levels, to be saddled with sky-high costs related to undocumented immigrants. Read more

“The community’s number one focus should be to stop importing poverty via the Johnstown Housing Authority,” Burns said, echoing his longstanding and very public position. “Johnstown will never be able to climb out of this cycle of poverty unless HUD and the Johnstown Housing Authority stop making excuses, and seriously address the issue of people from outside the area coming to Johnstown to obtain public housing and Section 8 Program vouchers.” Read more
