Proposing Legislation to Regulate Artificial Intelligence
in Healthcare
|
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already having a profound impact on the delivery of health care in Pennsylvania. It is imperative we ensure that patients and the public are aware of when insurers, hospitals, and clinicians use AI, that there is an individualized final assessment by a human decisionmaker when AI is used, and that AI does not reinforce discrimination already prohibited under law.
That’s why I am proud to partner with a bipartisan group of my colleagues to propose legislation that would create a regulatory framework for AI usage in health care. You can read my proposal here, and see my interview about it with abc27 here.

Celebrating 60 Years of Medicare and Medicaid
|
This week marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Medicare and Medicaid, programs that have helped millions of Americans and our fellow Pennsylvanians – senior citizens, children, pregnant women, the disabled, and the working poor.
As a physician, I know that these programs have saved lives. As a legislator, I am committed to protecting these programs and expanding access to affordable health care, even in the face of policy changes in the Big Ugly Bill that will gut these programs and rip away health care from millions across our country.

Recognizing our Korean War Veterans – and Other District News
|
Sunday marked Korean War Armistice Day, and the Korean American Association of Greater Pittsburgh organized a ceremony to remember the sacrifices of both Americans and Koreans who fought in the Korean War. I was proud to have my office join this importance event and recognize the sacrifices of those who fought for freedom in the Korean War.
American veterans, the Korean Consul General, a representative from the city of Pohang, South Korea and others in attendance also celebrated the strong ties between our two nations and the vibrancy of Pittsburgh’s Korean American community.

This week I had the opportunity to welcome to the North Hills Zach Filous, the new Borough Manager of Franklin Park. My staff and I look forward to continuing our partnership with the Borough and its leadership to support the residents of the Franklin Park community.
|
I also had the chance to continue my family tradition of joining our neighbors at the Saint Aidan Festival in McCandless. Thank you to all the volunteers and first responders who organize this wonderful event. Hope everyone is able to go to the festival that runs through the evening of Saturday, August 2.
