Takac secures nearly $100,000 in Solar for Schools grant funding

Will fund solar arrays at Mount Nittany Elementary School

STATE COLLEGE, May 22 – In a decisive move toward a greener, more cost-effective future, state Rep. Paul Takac, D-Centre, today announced nearly $100,000 in grant funding from the Solar for Schools program for the State College Area School District.

This critical investment will support the installation of solar arrays at Mount Nittany Elementary School, generating significant long-term energy savings while preserving essential resources for school improvements.

“By harnessing the power of solar technology, the school district will save dramatically on energy costs over time,” Takac said. “Those savings will free up money for other investments, such as updating facilities, enriching classroom resources and expanding staff.

“The innovative Solar for Schools program not only supports our commitment to clean energy, but also our commitment to fiscal responsibility by reducing costs for hardworking taxpayers,” he said.

"As chair of the State College Area School Board’s Facilities Committee, I thank Representative Takac for his relentless support for public education, solar energy and Pennsylvania jobs,” said Peter Buck, State College Area School District board member. “This installation will help us keep electricity costs down and meet the district’s ongoing pursuit of climate-smart efforts, something our kids and families overwhelmingly support."

The Solar for Schools initiative is crafted to reduce energy expenses in schools, allowing saved funds to be redirected into essential programs and infrastructure enhancements. Beyond the immediate financial advantages, this project will spur job creation in the burgeoning renewable energy sector and provide valuable educational opportunities that equip students with practical knowledge of sustainable energy technologies.

“This is a forward-thinking investment in our children’s education and our region’s future prosperity,” Takac added.
