My Sunday hunting bill is signed into law

Yesterday, Gov. Josh Shapiro signed legislation (H.B. 1431) introduced by state Rep. Mandy Steele, D-Allegheny, into law, which will repeal Pennsylvania’s ban on Sunday hunting.

The governor hosted the signing at the Blue Ridge Sportsman Club in Harrisburg, and was joined by the Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding, the Pennsylvania Game Commission, key lawmakers, and hunters to mark this historic bill being signed into law.

House Bill 1431 will give the Pennsylvania Game Commission the authority to approve general Sunday hunting. Additionally, Sunday hunting will be allowed on private property only with the owner’s written permission.

The bill will also allow for natural deer urine to be used for the purpose of scouting wildlife.

“For 50 years, advocates and hunters alike have fought for Sunday hunting. People who have carried the torch long before us – hunters who work 6 days a week, the hunting families who only have Sunday availability to hunt, even farmers, forest ecologists, wildlife biologists, conservationists, and the Game Commission – have been fighting so long to pass this monumental legislation,” Steele said.

“This law is going to allow for all Pennsylvanians to enjoy more time in our game lands for recreational hunting; it will bring families together and allow our youth the opportunity to connect intimately with the land, and it will strengthen wildlife conservation efforts across the state.”
