Sign up for my Seniors for Safe Driving Class
I’m hosting a Seniors for Safe Driving class next month to help those 55 and older refresh their driving skills and save on car insurance. The course, which is approved by the state Transportation Department, will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 12 at the Sharpsburg Senior Center, 209 13th St.
Participating seniors will receive a 5% discount on their automobile insurance for three years, and all insurance companies in Pennsylvania must accept it under state law. That discount is mandated by state law and makes the $17 class more attractive to many seniors.
You can sign up for the class at this link: Rep. Steele's Seniors for Safe Driving Class. You can also call my office at 724-826-5151 and we will provide you with the forms needed to enroll.

Help available Monday with tax and licensing matters

On Monday, I will host a representative from Allegheny County Treasurer Erica Rocchi Brusselars’ office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at my Cheswick office. This is a new service I’m offering, and it will be available once a month through September.
Residents can take advantage of this assistance to pay county property taxes, apply for the Homestead/Farmstead Exclusion or Senior Citizen Tax Relief programs, or obtain hunting, fishing, or dog licenses.
If you can’t make it on Monday, mark your calendars with the dates and times listed on the graphic above.

Thanking our officers during National Police Week
As National Police Week comes to a close, I’d like to thank the incredible police officers I represent in this district, and all those who choose to protect and serve. The work you do in our communities is difficult and so often dangerous. Thank you for showing up for us every day. I will continue to do my best to fight for you in Harrisburg.

Focusing on affordable housing
The goal of home ownership is becoming more and more unattainable in the United States. This week I attended a roundtable session in Sharpsburg hosted by Lt. Governor Austin Davis to discuss the problem and how the Shapiro-Davis administration’s Housing Action Plan will increase the housing supply and lower costs for Pennsylvania families. I appreciate that the administration is focused on this critical area.
You can read more about it here.

Pennsylvania will hold its Primary Election next Tuesday, May 19, and it’s important to make your voice heard.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day. Completed mail-in and civilian absentee ballots must be received by your county election office no later than 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19. Allegheny County has approved ballot return sites for voters to return a mail-in ballot without relying on the mail, and you can read more about them here.

Distracted driving can soon draw fines in PA
Drivers take note: Beginning June 6, you can be cited for driving while using a hand-held device in Pennsylvania, even while stopped at a red light or in a traffic jam. “Paul Miller’s Law” went into effect last year, but during the first year, police could only issue warnings. June 6 marks the date when drivers convicted of distracted driving will face a $50 fine. There are exceptions for contacting emergency officials and using hands-free technology.
Signed by Gov. Shapiro in 2024, “Paul Miller’s Law” was named for a 21-year-old Scranton man who was killed in a 2010 crash involving a truck driver who was using a cell phone.
