Scott welcomes Norristown student to historic Philadelphia House Session

NORRISTOWN, Sept. 11 – State Rep. Greg Scott, D-Montgomery, welcomed Norristown Area High School student Sara Brundidge to Wednesday’s commemorative voting session at Congress Hall in Philadelphia.
The event celebrated the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the 250th anniversary of the Pennsylvania Constitution by welcoming lawmakers in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to convene in the place where the Constitution and Bill of Rights were debated.
As part of the program, 80 Pennsylvania students were invited to represent their communities and engage with executive, judicial and legislative leaders. Brundidge was selected to represent Scott's Legislative District 54 after submitting an essay describing the impact of democracy on her life and the lives of others.
"Sara is an exemplary young person, and I was honored to host her and her mother for Wednesday’s celebrations," Scott said. "She exhibits strength, curiosity and ambition – all of which position her to have a significant positive impact on the future. My team and I offer her our greatest congratulations and thank her for coming with us to Philly."
Brundidge, who lives with cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair for many activities, wrote in her essay:
"To me, democracy is not just about voting. It is also about fairness, inclusion, respect and making sure every person is valued. It means listening to different perspectives while remembering that we all share the responsibility of building a better future together.
“I may move through the world differently than some people, but my voice matters just as much as anyone else's. My ideas, goals and dreams deserve to be heard. Democracy reminds me that every person has value and that our differences make us stronger."
