Scott denounces racism, bigotry and violence toward public officials

HARRISBURG, July 24 – State Rep. Greg Scott, D-Montgomery, today released the following statement about the uptick in race-based threats directed at elected officials and the unified response by Montgomery County officials.
“The racist and hateful voicemail left for my friend, Delaware County Sheriff Siddiq Kamara, was sickening. There is no place for racism, Islamophobia, or hatred in our politics or our communities, and I hope the person responsible is held fully accountable,” Scott said.
“This is personal for me.
“My family and I have lived through this kind of hate. I've received death threats, been called the N-word, and even received a voicemail from someone who said they wished one of my relatives had been raped. Those words don't just target elected officials—they target our families, our children, and our humanity.
“That's why I'm grateful my colleagues across Montgomery County came together—to speak with one voice. Together, every countywide elected official, state senator, and state representative from Montgomery County signed the statement below condemning the racism, threats, and intimidation that Sheriff Kamara endured and that too many Black elected officials experience far too often.
“We cannot wait until hate makes headlines to condemn it. We must call it out every single time. Silence only gives hate room to grow.
“Political disagreement is part of democracy. Racism, bigotry, and threats of violence are not.
“I'm proud to stand with my colleagues in saying, clearly and unequivocally: there is no place for hate here.”
