Scott announces $9.2 million for community development projects

NORRISTOWN, July 17 – State Rep. Greg Scott, D-Montgomery, today announced $9.2 million in state funds were awarded to cultural and community organizations in Norristown and Plymouth Meeting.

According to Scott, the projects awarded include:

  • $5 million to the Elmwood Park Zoo to build a new North America Exhibit
  • $3 million for demolition, site preparation and construction along the Main Street Norristown business district
  • $500,000 to the Norristown Public Library to renovate and expand its 1001 Powell St. location and parking lot
  • $500,000 to the Montgomery County Senior Adult Activity Center in Norristown, to add ADA bathrooms, replace the HVAC system, complete the elevator, and other renovations
  • $250,000 to Gemma Services for the construction of a turf athletic field and short track

“All of the projects that received RACP funding will strengthen our community and provide recreational, educational, and community opportunities to our residents, young and old,” said Scott. “I am pleased to see this investment from the state and proud to be part of our area’s revitalization.”

The grants are funded through the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, a grant program for the design, acquisition, and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.
