Speak your mind at our upcoming town halls!
As I work to represent our community, my best guidance comes from listening to the needs and concerns of community members. Please join me on April 30 in Braddock Hills or on May 1 in Rankin so that I can learn your priorities for our community and make sure they are heard loud and clear in Harrisburg. Stay tuned for more town halls at later dates!
Keeping the focus on Black maternal health
The Black Maternal Health Caucus hosted a comprehensive summit last week to elevate the critical issue of Black maternal mortality. Black Pennsylvanians experience a maternal mortality rate that is nearly twice that of white Pennsylvanians. The summit continued the essential dialogue on how to reverse this trend and raised awareness about the MOMNIBUS package of bills to improve maternal health outcomes. Visit this page to read more about the MOMNIBUS.
I want to congratulate Caucus Co-Chair Rep. La’Tasha D. Mayes and her fellow co-chairs for all their work that made the summit a huge success.
Thanks to everyone in our community who stopped by the Grants & Plants extended office hours event last Wednesday to pick up a grant directory and exchange some seeds and neighborly cheer. If you were unable to make it but still need a copy of the grant directory, you can pick one up at the 501 Braddock Ave. office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Mark your calendar for our free document shred event May 3!
I am teaming up with state Rep. Joe McAndrew to host a free document shred event on Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to noon (weather permitting). Please bring up to two paper bags or standard-size trash bags of documents for secure, on-site shredding. Also, please consider bringing an unexpired non-perishable food item for our local food bank!
A look at a unique, zero-emissions power source
My staffer Thomas Charyton joined members of the PA House Environmental and Natural Resource Protection Committee last week for a tour of the Westinghouse Science & Technology Center. Among other things, the group got to see the eVinci microreactor (above), a transportable, zero-emission-power reactor that requires zero water for cooling and can run for eight or more years at full power before refueling.
Saturday is Drug Take Back Day
Saturday, April 26, is National Drug Take Back Day – a great time to do your part to ensure prescription medications don’t fall into the wrong hands. Please check for unneeded or expired medications and take them to a nearby drug take-back site for safe disposal. Visit this page to find area locations.
This is a reminder that the state has a handy tool to help search for grants. Visit this page to search or this page to see a list of all the latest programs.
Please remember that my talented staff can help you with a wide variety of state-related matters, from filing for a Property Tax/Rent Rebate to obtaining a disability placard or senior bus pass – to name just a few. Contact us or stop by to see how we can help!
