Salisbury to host July 10 town hall on strengthening storm responses

BRADDOCK, July 2 – After the April storms that left many in the community without power, state Rep. Abigail Salisbury, D-Allegheny, will host a town hall from 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. July 10 at the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 9 union hall, 100 Kingston Dr., Pittsburgh.

The meeting will address how to strengthen storm responses at all levels of government to better serve residents who may be affected by extreme weather.

“The storms that struck western Pennsylvania in April left 400,000 people without power,” said Salisbury. “This meeting will ensure that residents have a voice in making the life-saving work that comes from all levels of government more effective.”

Community members will have the opportunity to speak with Salisbury, local emergency management personnel and representatives from Duquesne Light and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.

The event is open to the public.

Salisbury will soon be introducing legislation, along with state Rep. Mandy Steele, D-Allegheny, and state Rep. Valerie Gaydos, R-Allegheny, that would strengthen state legislative storm preparation assistance. The bill would mandate PEMA alerts and direct communication lines for state legislative offices.
