I’m excited to announce that nearly $3.4 million in grant funding is coming back to the district to finance community projects! The funding includes $2 million to Grow Pittsburgh for work on a new Wilkinsburg agricultural hub that will feature flexible instructional and community gathering spaces, a teaching kitchen, and food processing and storage and more; $500,000 to POWER (Pennsylvania Organization for Women in Early Recovery) for major renovations to address safety needs at POWER House; $500,000 to the Frick Art & Historical Center for their historic renovation; and $350,000 to support ongoing construction of the new medical center in Homewood. On Saturday, our constituent services advisor, Leslie, attended the grand opening of the Sam Gibson Resource Center, located at 7643 Frankstown Avenue in Homewood. The center will host a free community food distribution event every Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for as long as supplies last. Our summer interns, Jordan Portis and Justin Giberson (above left and center), joined our district office director, Aaron, for a tour of The Education Partnership, a nonprofit that works to provide school supplies to students and teachers in under-resourced schools across Southwestern PA. The Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County has opened applications for grants from the Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund, which uses revenue from gaming to allow municipalities, authorities, councils of government (COGs), and both non- and for-profit businesses to carry out significant economic development for current and future use.
