Warrington’s Mountain at Lions Pride Park wins 2025 Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence

Warrington, June 11 – State Rep. Brian Munroe, D-Bucks, applauded Warrington’s Lions Pride Park on its ecological restoration project’s Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence.

Lions Pride Park’s “Kid Mountain” converted a pond full of impounded sediment and invasive species into a native freshwater shrub wetland that is accessible to the community. The mountain now serves as a central, accessible play space for kids of all ages and abilities. It is covered in pollinator-friendly plants and includes a path that guides visitors through new wetland areas and rainwater basins, in addition to unique playground equipment.

“I’m proud to represent a community dedicated to the wellbeing of our children and our environment,” said Munroe. “The project at Lions Pride Park is a smart, sustainable way to use local greenspace effectively and for the benefit of the community.”

The ecological restoration was a joint project of Warrington Township and the Warrington Lions’ Club, with input from children in the community. It is one of 19 projects being honored by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

Award applications were evaluated for their degree of environmental protection, innovation, partnership, economic impact, consideration of climate change, sustainability, and environmental justice.
