Brian's Briefing for October 10: 100 days without a budget, our free vaccine clinic, and more

Dear Neighbors,

This week we officially hit 100 days without a state budget. In the face of the current federal shutdown, I know many of you are concerned about what the future holds.

On Wednesday, the House passed our third budget bill of those 100 days. It is balanced, bipartisan, and it doesn’t raise your taxes. We crafted this bill to compromise and ease some of the concerns raised by the Senate during past consideration. The Senate still has to act on it before anything would go into effect.

My colleagues and I want you to have everything you need and deserve from the state, and this new bill would do just that, if the Senate passes it.

In addition to the latest budget bill, here are a few legislative highlights from this session week:

  • We protected workers by allowing them to collect unemployment compensation benefits if their unemployment is due to a stoppage of work because of a labor dispute (HB 145).
  • We’re supporting safe school infrastructure by creating a school facilities inventory within the PA Department of Education (HB 1701).
  • We’re modernizing our state liquor laws and supporting businesses by allowing businesses with liquor licenses to have premixed cocktails on tap, just like beer (HB 1702).

As always, my office is here to help with any state-related concern. Stop by, email me at RepMunroe@pahouse.net, or give us a call at 215-323-6997.
