Brian's Briefing for October 3: Protecting Vaccine Access, and our upcoming events!

Dear Neighbor,

It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and as a two-time cancer survivor, I know the impact such a diagnosis can have on the patient and those who love them and care for them. As a legislator, I am dedicated to finding ways to help ease that burden, whether it’s by voting for bills that support healthcare access, or by advancing my own legislation aimed at banning toxins that can lead to disease.

Earlier this year, the House passed House Bill 1261, my legislation that would ban toxic PFAS chemicals known to cause cancer from firefighting foam. That bill now waits for Senate consideration. And earlier this month, the House Consumer Protection, Technology & Utilities Committee met for an informational hearing to discuss the use of PFAS in a variety of consumer products, from firefighting gear to cosmetics.

I left Harrisburg this week with no update on the budget stalemate. We meet again next week for another voting session.

In Service,

Governor’s Executive Order Protects Vaccines for PA Residents

The safety and use of vaccines was recently thrown into question by messaging from the federal government, and many of you have expressed concern about how to get vaccines and whether your insurance will still cover them. As we head into the winter cold and flu season, I know this is of utmost concern.

This week, Governor Shapiro signed an executive order that will

  • require Pennsylvania agencies to align policy with trusted medical experts
  • create a working group to help strengthen and clarify communication about vaccines to the public
  • make sure insurance policies – private and Medicaid – continue to cover the cost of seasonal and other vaccinations
  • protect access to common vaccines for kids

The goal is to help Pennsylvanians get the facts about vaccines, avoid misinformation, and to ensure seniors and children can get the vaccines they need to prevent dangerous illness. I applaud Governor Shapiro for this action and for his support of health in PA.

Speaking of Vaccines…We’re Hosting a Vaccine Clinic!

My team and I want to support you in as many ways as we can. After hearing from many of you about vaccine access, we organized a Free Vaccine Clinic in partnership with Eric’s RX Shoppe of Horsham. Flu and COVID-19 vaccines will be available for anyone of vaccination age (3+ in many cases).

The Clinic is Friday, October 24 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Ben Wilson Senior Center, 580 Delmont Ave., Warminster. It is by appointment only, so head to this page on my website to register. Registration closes October 22 so that the pharmacy can prepare the vaccines.

Goodbye to our Intern, Ian

This week we said farewell to our intern, Ian, who leaves us to attend Temple’s police academy in Ambler. We wish him the best as he trains to serve his community in new and exciting ways!

Know an Outstanding Citizen?

I’m excited to share a new way to honor members of our community who go above and beyond. If you know someone who makes the world a better place, head over to my website to share their story on my new Nominate a Citizen form, and I’ll be sure to acknowledge them for their impact!
