Brian's Briefing for September 26: Back to Harrisburg Next Week, Preparing for Emergencies, and more

Dear Neighbor,

It’s been a busy summer back here in the district, where I enjoyed many community events and meetings with those of you who stopped by my office for support.

Next week marks the return of our regular House voting sessions in Harrisburg, and I’m looking forward to getting back to work on legislation that serves you and our communities well. I hope to have a positive update about our state budget soon!

Until then, read on for a few state-related updates and highlights from this week in Legislative District 144.

In Service,

Changes to Pennie, PA’s Health Insurance Marketplace Plans

Federal tax credits that were passed in 2021 are set to expire soon, and with their expiration premiums on insurance plans purchased through the Pennie marketplace will rise significantly if Congress doesn’t act soon.

Estimates are showing that insurance premiums could rise by 19% for individuals and 13% for small businesses. Nearly 500,000 Pennsylvanians are enrolled in plans through Pennie.

You can help by contacting Congressman Fitzpatrick, along with Senators McCormick and Fetterman, to urge them to extend the enhanced tax credits and prevent these premium increases.

September is National Preparedness Month

In recognition of National Preparedness Month, the Shapiro Administration, PA Department of Banking and Securities, PA Insurance Department, and PA Emergency Management Agency share these practical tips for staying financially prepared to recover from disaster:

  • Store paper copies of important documents, like birth certificates, property titles, financial information, insurance policies, and copies of ID cards and passports in a fire-safe evacuation box.
  • Review your insurance policies at least annually to ensure you’re familiar with what coverage you carry and to make changes if you need to increase. Do this for your homeowners insurance, life insurance, and health insurance.
  • Set aside cash for emergency essentials like food, lodging, and transportation
  • Keep a list of your account numbers, and the phone numbers for the banks, credit card companies, and insurance companies you might need to contact.
  • Try to keep low balances on credit cards to give you leeway for the unplanned major expenses that can come after a disaster.

Pennsylvanians are encouraged to visit Ready PA to learn how to be informed, be prepared, and be involved. Sign up for Emergency Alerts or subscribe to the Ready PA Newsletter.

Warminster Heights Senior Expo

Last week my office participated in the Warminster Heights Senior Expo. Thank you to everyone who stopped at our table to talk about state services and learn about how we can best support you. If you didn’t have a chance to stop to see us, no worries – we’re hosting our own Senior Expo in November. Check RepMunroe.com/events in the coming weeks for details!

Supporting Our Local Businesses

The BucksMont Chamber of Commerce recently invited me to an event to discuss how the state can support businesses in our region. Together with State Sen. Frank Farry and State Rep. Kristin Marcell, I shared important resources and strategies we can offer business leaders to strengthen their presence and our overall economy. I am grateful for the opportunity to hear from the diverse and innovative business community of Bucks County.
