Brian's Briefing for August 8: New office hours, PA250, and our college resource fair!

Dear Neighbor,

Our state budget is still at a standstill, and of utmost concern to people throughout Southeastern PA is whether SEPTA’s proposed service cuts and fare hikes will go into effect on August 24. This week, SEPTA announced that if additional state funding doesn’t come through by August 14, they’ll be forced to move forward with these plans.

Our community will feel this most in the reduced schedules of the Warminster Line and Lansdale/Doylestown Line of SEPTA’s regional rail, which many of you use to get to and from work and to access the communities around us. But the cuts go beyond our district, and any of you commuting to other towns or to Philly could be impacted by the sweeping cuts to services throughout the region.

This week, the House Transportation Committee met and voted on HB 1788, a bill that pairs the House plan to fund transit with a Senate plan to manage more SEPTA modernization and oversight. We’re hopeful that bringing these two measures together will help the legislature reach a consensus on supporting mass transit and road and bridge maintenance throughout PA.

New Extended Office Hours!

Starting this month, our district office will be open for extended hours every second and fourth Wednesday of the month, by appointment only. We know it can be hard to make time to get to our office during normal business hours, and we hope this adjustment makes it easier for you to get help when you need it. Give us a call at 215-323-6997 to schedule.

Watch my Latest PA250 Video!

Video

America celebrates 250 years next July! In the run up to our celebrations, I’ll be posting to my social media channels one video each month telling you about a historical site or person from our Legislative District.

This month, the video features Reverend William Tennent’s Log College, the center of a movement for education and liberty. Watch above! To follow along and learn about the history of our community, be sure to follow me on Facebook: Rep. Brian Munroe or check these e-newsletters for the next installment.

Celebrating a Dedicated Career

I recently had the honor of celebrating the retirement of Sgt C. Richard Michie lI from the New Britain Police Department. Sgt. Michie had a 35-year career serving our communities, and we owe him a debt of gratitude for his service and commitment. Thank you to Chief Richard Clowser and the New Britain Township Board of Supervisors for organizing such a wonderful celebration!

PA Money Match

Keep an eye on your mailbox -- 40,000 Pennsylvanians are receiving letters as part of the PA Money Match program, which returns unclaimed property worth $500 or less automatically. Confirm your address, and you could receive a check in about 45 days!

Head here or contact my office for help searching for other unclaimed funds of yours that PA Treasury might be holding in safekeeping -- the average claim is worth over $1,000!

Every year, the Pennsylvania Treasury helps people claim unclaimed property that is rightfully theirs. Currently, the Treasury has nearly $3.8 billion in unclaimed property it is seeking to return to individuals and businesses.
