Dear Friends,
I had the privilege of visiting one of KenCrest’s group homes located in Ambler. This visit was an invaluable opportunity to engage directly with the dedicated staff and residents, and to gain a deeper understanding of the critical issues facing our community.
During the visit, we had an in-depth discussion about the challenges faced by Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). These professionals are the backbone of our intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) services community, providing essential support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. However, the DSP workforce is currently facing significant challenges, including high turnover rates, low wages, and limited career advancement opportunities. Addressing these issues is crucial to ensuring that our community members receive the consistent, high-quality care they deserve.
|
We also explored the need for continued investment in the I/DD services community. To support individuals with disabilities in living as independently as possible, we must invest in community-based long-term supports and services. This includes not only financial investment but also policy changes to ensure that Medicaid and other funding sources are adequately supporting these essential services.
I am committed to advocating for the necessary resources and policy changes to support our DSP workforce and the broader I/DD community. Together, we can work towards a future where every individual with disabilities has access to the support they need to thrive.
Thank you to everyone at the group home for your warm welcome and for sharing your insights and experiences. Your dedication and hard work are truly inspiring.
I am also pleased to share that my first Aging & Older Adult Services Committee meeting of 2025 was held this week. It was an informational meeting focused on providing an update on the current state of the homecare industry and the challenges faced by direct care workers. This indicates that addressing this issue is not only a personal priority but also one shared by the PA House. I look forward to seeing our efforts make a meaningful difference in our communities.

?? Hallowell Elementary Career Day ??
|
I had an incredible time participating in Hallowell Elementary's Career Day! It was a rewarding experience to engage with the bright and curious minds of 3rd to 5th graders!
One of the highlights of my day was explaining how my position works and the various roles I play in the legislative process. Seeing their eyes light up with curiosity and excitement as they learned about what I do was truly heartwarming.
|
I also took the opportunity to encourage these young learners to use their voices and get involved in advocating for the changes they want to see in their futures. It's never too early to start understanding the importance of civic engagement and knowing that they have the power to make a difference.
Watching these students' enthusiasm and passion for learning was a wonderful reminder of why I love what I do. I can't wait to see the amazing things they'll accomplish in the future! ???
