My Office Meet & Greet Cookout is today!

State budget update

This week, we moved a budget plan that reflects compromise by cutting a billion dollars off the governor’s proposal while still paying for the things we need.

Senate leadership hadn’t called their members to the Capitol since June, while we’ve been in Harrisburg every week. After passing our budget plan, the Senate quickly scheduled new session days. I’m hoping this is a positive sign that we may see a final budget deal soon.

There comes a time to responsibly govern, and compromise and we’ve moved to compromise.

Despite the cuts, HB 1330 invests in the things that matter most, including a $526 million increase in the Ready-to-Learn Block Grant for the second installment of adequacy and tax equity payments. It includes a $1.1 billion increase for the Medical Assistance Managed Care program and an $8 million increase for the State Food Purchase Program to try to blunt some of the worst impacts to our vulnerable neighbors that will come from Federal budget cuts.

While nothing is finalized now, negotiations can continue in Harrisburg as we work to pass a budget that works for ALL Pennsylvanians.
