My thoughts on the federal budget reconciliation bill
|
The so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” would be devastating for the people of Pennsylvania’s 163rd District, where over 14,400 residents — nearly 23% of our community — rely on Medicaid for health care and over 3,200 households — nearly 13% — depend on SNAP to put food on the table.
This legislation slashes funding for vital safety net programs like Medicaid and SNAP, making it harder for working families, seniors, and children to access health care and afford groceries. At a time when many families are already struggling with high costs of living, cutting these programs will push more neighbors into poverty, increase medical debt, and worsen food insecurity across the district.
Beyond the local harm, the bill is part of a broader effort to transfer wealth to the richest Americans at the expense of the middle and working class. By delivering massive tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy and large corporations — paid for by gutting programs that ordinary families rely on — the bill deepens inequality and undermines the economic security of communities like ours. Instead of investing in affordable health care, education, and jobs, it funnels resources upward, leaving fewer opportunities and less stability for everyone else.
In the 163rd District, we need policies that strengthen the middle class and lift up those who are struggling, not legislation that rigs the system even further in favor of the wealthy few.

Relaunching the PA Youth & Public Safety Caucus
|
As a co-chair of the newly re-launched PA Youth & Public Safety Caucus, I’m fighting to improve the lives of young people across the state through collaboration and partnerships with a variety of organizations and community leaders.
This caucus will follow data-driven, research-based policies that lead with both compassion and fairness. We appreciate the hard work of the advocates, our fellow legislators and the work of the PA Juvenile Justice Task Force who have set a strong road map for us.
|
Let's prioritize the well-being of our youth, let's protect their rights, and let's build a justice system that recognizes our young people's capacity to grow and change. Working together, we can make a difference!

Bills we passed this week
|
This week, my House colleagues and I passed important bills that will help our neighbors and improve our communities:
Your wallet was protected by capping overdraft and nonsufficient fees on bank transactions (HB 1553) and requiring service companies to clearly and conspicuously provide consumers with the option to opt into, rather than opt out of, a service (HB 129).
Support for new moms was passed by expanding Medical Assistance to cover blood pressure monitors for home use as a pregnancy-related service (HB 1234).
We acted to guard the good health of the brave firefighters who put their own safety on the line for all of us by reducing their exposure on the job to certain chemicals (HB 1261).
The bills now travel to the Senate for consideration.

Take the Women’s Health Survey by July 7!
|
As an advocate for women's health, I’m proud to support the PA Women’s Health Caucus in their efforts to better understand the real-life experiences of women accessing health care in our Commonwealth.
We want to hear from YOU! This quick, 10-minute survey is completely anonymous and vital in shaping policies that truly meet women’s needs.
Your voice matters—please take a moment to share your experience: Expanding Access to Women's Healthcare | Insurance Department | Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Together, we can work toward a healthier, more equitable Pennsylvania!

Donation Drive for Mitzvah Circle
|
In addition to providing free menstrual products to families in need, Mitzvah Circle’s Period Supply program provides free menstrual products to local libraries, prisons, community centers, colleges and more than 345 partner organizations—filling the gaps in Gov. Shapiro’s initiative to provide free period supplies to K-12 schools. Furthermore, this program helps reach young women and girls when they are not in school through Mitzvah Circle’s large-scale “Period Supply Giveaways” and “Pads in the Park” initiatives.
Please consider supporting @MitzvahCircle’s donation drive. My office, at 6 S. Springfield Road, Unit A in Clifton Heights, is a drop-off location!
