Working for you in Harrisburg

Dear Neighbor,

This week, my PA House colleagues and I passed important bills that will help our neighbors and improve our communities:

We’re protecting your health by restoring dental coverage within the Medical Assistance program (HB 583), ensuring day care facilities can obtain prescriptions for and maintain a constant supply of EPI pens (HB 928) and ensuring that an insurance company cannot deny coverage for care that is received from a health care provider solely because it is provided in a school setting (HB 1445).

Additionally, we are prohibiting taxes on overtime and taxes on tips and creating a Working Pennsylvanians tax credit, which would help nearly a million people who already claim the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit and give them up to $2,300 back (HB 1610).

To address the child care worker and teacher shortages crisis, we are by helping those who wish to return to education complete continuing professional education requirements (HB 1403) and providing recruitment and retention bonuses for licensed child care providers participating in the Child Care Works program (HB 506).

We’re also working to fund home repairs for homeowners, not only assisting the housing crisis in the Commonwealth but also keeping people in their homes (HB 1650).

Finally, legislation was passed this week that would enable SNAP and WIC recipients to purchase menstrual hygiene products through federal waivers and establish a grant program to fund free distribution of such products in public schools (HB 1100).

All these bills now travel to the state Senate for consideration.

In the news

Investing in clean energy creates jobs, saves taxpayers money, and benefits communities, which is exactly what Pennsylvania’s Solar for Schools program works to do.

Six schools in the Upper Darby School District were recently awarded a combined $2.4 million for their Solar for Schools Programs. The funding will be used to help lower energy costs and support renewable energy use.

Take the Women’s Health Survey by July 7!

As an advocate for women's health, I’m proud to support the PA Women’s Health Caucus in their efforts to better understand the real-life experiences of women accessing health care in our Commonwealth.

We want to hear from YOU! This quick, 10-minute survey is completely anonymous and vital in shaping policies that truly meet women’s needs.

Your voice matters—please take a moment to share your experience: Expanding Access to Women's Healthcare | Insurance Department | Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Together, we can work toward a healthier, more equitable Pennsylvania!

Donation Drive for Mitzvah Circle

In addition to providing free menstrual products to families in need, Mitzvah Circle’s Period Supply program provides free menstrual products to local libraries, prisons, community centers, colleges and more than 345 partner organizations—filling the gaps in Gov. Shapiro’s initiative to provide free period supplies to K-12 schools.  Furthermore, this program helps reach young women and girls when they are not in school through Mitzvah Circle’s large-scale “Period Supply Giveaways” and “Pads in the Park” initiatives.

Please consider supporting @MitzvahCircle’s donation drive. My office, at 6 S. Springfield Road, Unit A in Clifton Heights, is a drop-off location!

Commonwealth agencies warn of scam targeting older Pennsylvanians

The Pennsylvania Insurance Department, Department of Aging, Department of Banking and Securities, State Police, and Attorney General’s Office are warning residents—especially seniors—about a new inheritance scam involving someone posing as a state employee.

The scam uses fake emails that mimic Commonwealth addresses to convince victims to send money in exchange for a fictitious overseas inheritance. One reported case saw an older Pennsylvanian lose money over nearly a year.

Officials urge residents to:

  • Ignore unsolicited messages offering money or prizes.
  • Verify suspicious emails (official state emails end in @pa.gov).
  • Never share personal info or send money to unknown individuals.
  • Report suspicious activity to state agencies or local law enforcement.

New ‘Let Freedom Ring’ license plates available

Pennsylvania has launched its “Let Freedom Ring” license plate, celebrating Pennsylvania as the birthplace of American democracy and the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary in 2026.

Nearly 11,700 Pennsylvanians who signed up last year have already received theirs.

The new plates are now available to order through PennDOT. The plates support the state’s tourism efforts as part of PA’s Great American Getaway campaign and its broader economic development strategy.
