Fighting for mass transit in Pennsylvania
|
Dear Neighbor,
Mass transit in Pennsylvania is facing a critical funding crisis that will have negative impacts in every region across the state.
That’s why I voted to make sure everyone can get to where they need to go safely and efficiently. Without this necessary funding, hundreds of thousands of cars will be put on the road – disrupting your commute – billions of dollars in economic impact will be lost, and hard-working Pennsylvanians will be out of a job.
Join me and demand action from the PA Senate to fund mass transit across Pennsylvania! /www.pahouse.com/fundtransitnow

Reinforcing AG oversight of health care mergers
|
I was a proud vote YES on H.B. 1460, a bill that would give the state attorney general more power to review big business deals involving hospitals and other for-profit companies. This helps protect the public’s best interests. We witnessed a devastating closure in Delco when Crozer Health closed, and this bill aims to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
Under this bill, the attorney general would have at least 60 days to review detailed information about any proposed hospital mergers or sales. If such deals would reduce competition, raise prices, or negatively impact healthcare in the community, the attorney general can negotiate better terms or even ask a court to stop the deal.
We now just need an affirmative vote from the Senate so the bill can go to Gov. Shapiro and become law!

Giving working people a long-overdue raise
|
A fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work – there’s nothing more American than that. Someone who works hard should be able to afford the necessities – food, utilities, a safe place to live.
I voted to pass the Raise the Wage Act, a real-world plan to give hundreds of thousands of working people their first raise since 2009 in a way that works for every community, and provides future raises that are tied to the cost of living, so Pennsylvania’s workers will never have to be tied for dead last in America on payday ever again.

Delivering for you in Harrisburg
|
These past two weeks, my House colleagues and I passed important bills that will help our neighbors and improve our communities:
We’re protecting your wallet by prohibiting ticket resellers from charging a fee to the purchaser greater than 5% of the ticket price for the purchase of a ticket to a sporting, musical, theater or other entertainment event (HB 967) and putting money back in your wallet by increasing the threshold for the automatic return of unclaimed property from $500 to $10,000 (HB 1189).
We’re addressing the teacher shortage crisis by ensuring that no teacher certification fee exceeds $50 (HB 1402) and allowing veterans’ service experience in a specific occupational area to count toward the credits necessary for a CTE Instructional 1 certification (HB 1405).
We’re strengthening health and safety by requiring AEDs at school athletic events (HB 191).
We’re making access to maternal health easier and more affordable by requiring insurance coverage for blood pressure monitors for home use within one year of the delivery or end of pregnancy (HB 1088).
We’re providing a two-year window for survivors of childhood sexual abuse to seek justice and file previously time barred claims (HB 462 and HB 464).

Donation Drive for Mitzvah Circle
|
In addition to providing free menstrual products to families in need, Mitzvah Circle’s Period Supply program provides free menstrual products to local libraries, prisons, community centers, colleges and more than 345 partner organizations—filling the gaps in Gov. Shapiro’s initiative to provide free period supplies to K-12 schools. Furthermore, this program helps reach young women and girls when they are not in school through Mitzvah Circle’s large-scale “Period Supply Giveaways” and “Pads in the Park” initiatives.
Please consider supporting @MitzvahCircle’s donation drive. My office, at 6 S. Springfield Road, Unit A in Clifton Heights, is a drop-off location!
