Reducing contraceptive barriers in PA

Dear Neighbor,

Under the current presidential administration, we have seen policy proposals that threaten access to contraceptives available to women.

This week, I proudly voted for H.B. 1140, which would require health insurers, Medicaid and CHIP to cover contraceptive drugs, devices and services. Contraceptives are not just for preventing pregnancy—they also help treat conditions like endometriosis and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

Basic preventative care like birth control should not be a luxury that is only available to some.

It is now up to the state Senate to do the right thing and pass this bill!

Treating cyber charter schools like the taxpayer-funded public schools they are

Cyber charter schools are part of the modern world, but the rules governing these taxpayer-funded public schools are ancient history.

Until now.

This week I was proud to vote for the Cyber Charter Reform Act and deliver fairness and transparency to taxpayers, parents and students here in Delaware County.

Our bill would make sure the money spent on cyber charters is spent to educate our kids, puts an end to nine-figure slush funds, and makes sure the people paying the bills have a say about how cybers do business. When only about six out of 10 cyber students are graduating compared to nine out of 10 in traditional public schools, we can’t wait any longer.

We’re setting standard tuition rates and returning the savings back to the taxpayers and the home school districts and making sure you’re getting what you’re paying for.

Sections of Springfield Road in Clifton Heights Borough closed through Dec. 3

Road work has begun to enhance stormwater installation, curbing, milling and overlay and streetscape on sections of Springfield Road in Clifton Heights Borough.

The following travel restrictions have been set:

Drivers have been advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work areas because backups and delays are expected.

Delivering for you in Harrisburg

This week, my House Democratic colleagues and I passed important bills that will help our neighbors and improve our communities:

We’re protecting consumers by banning “speculative ticketing,” a practice that allows unofficial sellers to list tickets for sale even though they do not actually possess – and may never have - those tickets (H.B. 463).

We’re supporting seniors and individuals with disabilities who qualify for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program by permitting these rebate payments to be issued at any time after an application is filed and approved by the Department of Revenue instead of having to wait until July 1 or later to receive their rebates (H.B. 1072).
